If you use your garage often, then a dedicated workspace can provide you with extra organization and practical uses for the area. Instead of shopping for a premade workbench, you can plan out and custom your own garage workbench to include all the features you seek.

As you brainstorm and consider design options for the custom welding project, check out some features welders can include and build into the design. Each option increases the versatility of the piece and gives you a workbench to enjoy for years into the future.

Work Bench Size

When you have a workbench in your garage, you want an area with plenty of space to complete projects and keep supplies on. Ideally, you should measure the width of the wall in the back of your garage. Welders can create a workbench that extends from wall to wall so you have plenty of space for tools and projects.

Thick-Cut Metal

Advanced tools give welders the ability to cut metal into different thicknesses. A thick-cut metal will supply you with the strength and durability to get jobs done. A workbench may need to hold a lot of weight at onetime. Thick legs and a thick tabletop surface will ensure the workbench can sustain extra weight like car parts, lumber, or heavy tools.

Raised Edges

Prevent items from sliding or falling off a workbench with the use of raised edges. The raised edges provide a nice barrier for tools like screwdrivers or small parts like nuts and bolts. Every item you use remains contained within the workbench. The raised edges can extend across the front of a workbench and on the sides.

Open Holes

You may need outlet access on a workbench for electronic items, power tools, or extra lights. A welding company can drill holes right into multiple areas of the workbench. The access holes supply an easy way to feed plugs through the workbench and will help with organization. You do not have to deal with a daily bundle of wires or extend wires up and around the area.

Organization Wall

Extend the back of a workbench with a large metal piece that extends upwards. Welded hooks provide a place to hang tools and items for quick access. You do not need to pile up tools on the workbench. Hooks welded directly onto the metal provide extra stability and strength. A welder can evenly space out the hooks to leave extra room for bigger tools like saws and drills.

Magnetic Wall Piece

A flat wall piece that extends from the workbench can also act as a magnetic organizer. Use magnets to post reminders, calendars, pictures, and important information. As you go to your workbench, you will see the magnetic wall and easily track items. The wall could even hold copies of your favorite take-out menus if you need a food break while you work.

Raised Platform Area

One section of the workbench could feature a raised platform area. The small area would sit just a few inches above the main workbench and provides an ideal space to hold extra items. For example, you could place your phone on the platform to keep it away from the main workspace. A raised platform is also ideal for drinks or snacks.

The separate area is easy to access and will prevent unnecessary problems associated with personal items and your garage work.
